Born from a French family, Laurent lived in Puerto Rico, though Laurent spent his childhood traveling between their island home and Tennessee. Laurent began his professional career as a chef in Southern California. He spent countless hours in the kitchens of Los Angeles starting at the young age of 15 in staples such as 72 Market Street, Jiraffe, Josie Restaurant, Towne Restaurant as well as Memphis at the Beach, Cache and Waterloo & City.
